Microsoft’s new learning center for developers certainly looks like it could be a great resource for those trying to learn programming using the Microsoft tools.
It offers two learning tracks with the lessons broken up over 3 tiers to make sure that you can find lessons within your skill level. They are also providing a “How-To” reference library for those with more experience but just looking to find out about a specifc control.
Because the learning tracks are divided into two sections, it allows potential developers to find out what might be right for them.
The Web Development track gives lessons on creating dynamic websites and/or working with online applications and services – a great track for those that want to move thier sites and skills into the Web 2.0 and beyond technologies.
The other learning track is for those that want to program for the Windows enviroment, including desktop gadgets and applications. With the potential of unlimited gadgets for Windows Vista this would be a great thing to pickup.
In keeping with the free training, they have several “Express” editions available to download. While I am sure they are limited compared to the full versions, it does allow someone to start training right away with only a time investment. The programs available are:
- Visual Web Developer 2005
- Visual Basic 2005
- SQL Server 2005
- Visual C# 2005
- Visual C++ 2005
- Visual J# 2005
