Gary Eimerman

To start today, I would like to thank you for being part of the Train Signal community. I’ve got some great news for everyone.

We have officially launched the new Train Signal Forums!

You can get to the Train Signal forums at http://forums.trainsignal.com — or from the link on top of the page at TrainSignal.com and from links in the right hand column of TrainSignalTraining.com.

The forums will be your one stop shop for Train Signal technical support, updates and any fixes for our videos, certification info, some off topic fun and much more to come in the near future. Head on over, check it out, and get posting.

Train Signal Forums

Speaking of certification info I’ve got an exclusive for you. I recently had the pleasure of sitting in on a meeting with a couple of members of the CompTIA Security+ 2008 Marketing and Development Teams (Thank you for the invite Carol!). In the meeting there was discussion about the upcoming revamped Security+ exam, objectives, and focus.

CompTIA Security+ CertificationBefore I go too far, for those of you who haven’t heard; CompTIA will be launching a new Security+ exam.

The new exam is scheduled to be live in Vue and Prometric testing centers in October of 2008. The new exam number is SY0-201. The current Security+ exam, exam #SY0-101, will be retired in April 2009.

At this time the exam objectives are getting close to final and CompTIA expects to have final objectives posted in May.

After seeing what they have so far, I am confident in saying they have a good solid test for everyone looking to get started in the IT security field.

According to Certification Magazine’s 2007 Annual Salary Survey those with the CompTIA Security+ certification under their belt make, on average, a little over $68,000 a year.

The CompTIA Security+ is a vendor neutral certification which is nothing new for those of you who are familiar with CompTIA; however one new focus for the 2008 exam which is a bit different from CompTIA in the past is emphasis on knowing how to do in addition to being able to recognize topics.

Now you might be scratching your head here. Are they changing the type of exam, multiple choice -> simulation? No. They are just taking the questions a step further and instead of just having to identify a best practice or security application you will need to know how to apply those.

News of this made all of us here at Train Signal very happy. Our training is built to teach you how to apply all of the valuable knowledge learned in actual environments. Our scenario based training fits right into the focus of CompTIA’s new exam and I look forward to working with CompTIA and bringing you the best training you can get for the new exam.

I’ll keep you posted with any additional information and dates as they become available.

For more information about the current Security+ exam check out CompTIA.org.

So, it’s great to see security+ is on it’s way; but are there any plans for CISSP videos in your future?

Fact: Military/DoD IT professionals are required to have Security+ up to a certain career level, but then must have either CISSP or SANS Certification. Assumeing that you are not legally able to do the SANS route, the only other option is CISSP. I have been looking for CISSP to be offered by Train Signals for over a year. Now, I see that it’s offered on your compeditor’s site (CBTNuggets) but not here; why? I like your training videos much better than that other site …So, is CISSP in your [our] future?

  • Hi Dave-

Thanks for the support. I’m glad to hear that you prefer our products. We do too :-)

The CISSP has been a course that we have interest in developing in the future. We currently do not have a CISSP course in development, but I will make sure to let everyone know if and when we do.
