At VMworld 2009, VMware announced a new free solution to help SMBs get started with virtualization called VMware Go. In partnership with Shavlik, VMware Go is a free web-based service that allows Admins to:

  • Download ESXi for free
  • Burn it to a DVD
  • Evaluate existing hardware to see if it is compatible with ESXi
  • Install and Configure ESXi
  • Convert existing physical servers to virtual (P2V), create a new VM, or download virtual appliances
  • Finally, to manage those ESXi servers or VMs and report on the vitual infrastructure

In my video, I walk you though all of these things step-by-step. VMware Go is a powerful new (and completely free) product from VMware that is going to go a long way in helping SMBs to move to virtualization.
