Firefox Password Manager Flaw Bug #360493

Here is something to worry about for all the Firefox users. Mozilla has acknowledged a problem with Firefox Password Manager and decided to call it “Bug #360493”.

There is a flaw in Firefox Password Manager that allows users to store their usernames and passwords for trusted websites. This flaw lets a hacker trick a user’s browser into sending username and password information to the hacker’s computer. Because of the way this is performed, the browser can’t detect the problem and has no idea that this is going on. Also important is the fact that Microsoft admits that this bug can also affect Internet Explorer users.

As of now there are no available patches to fix this problem. To avoid being a victim of this bug, make sure to disable your browser’s auto-save features for usernames and passwords. Here are steps on how to do that:

Firefox browser:

  • Go to “Tools”
  • Select “Options”
  • Click on the “Security” tab
  • Uncheck the box for “Remember Passwords for sites”

Internet Explorer browser:

  • Go to “Tools” on the top menu
  • Select “Internet Options”
  • Click on the “Content” tab
  • Under the AutoComplete section, click on the “Settings” button
  • Uncheck the box for “Usernames and passwords on forms”
