The free retake is offered for the Microsoft IT Professional, Developer, or Microsoft Dynamics certification exams and you only get a free shot if you don’t pass on your first try.
The way it works is, you register for the Second Shot offer on Microsoft’s website and you receive an exam voucher number. Then, when you go to schedule and pay for your exam, you enter the voucher number. If you don’t pass your exam on the first try, all you have to do is register your free retake exam with the same exam voucher number as before.
