Hi, thanks for this great post! I installed WP on a windows server without any problems thanks to your step-by-step description.

Now the only problem I can't fix is sending out emails via wordpress.

I have installed the WP MAIL SMTP Plugin and the basic WP Contact Form. Whether I use SMTP or PHP (mail) function, none of it works. Testmails (from the plugin settings page) arrive, but nothing happens if i send emails via the contact form.

Any idea what might be the problem?

I found the problem. In the web.config file I have to specify the subfolder that I put the wordpress files in. For my test I had placed the wordpress files in a sub-folder. Once I added wordpress/index.php to the url line the problem went away and all works properly.

I don't know why I didn't have a web.config file in the first place but the created one works fine.

Again, you have made some excellent help files.

I find your tutorials to be very helpful. Thank you.

I have set up a Windows 2008 Web Server running IIS7. 64bit; PHP 5.2.10; MySQL 5.1. Wordpress 2.8.2. rewrite_1.1_amd64.

All works well until I try to setup the rewrite function. I am supposed to have a web.config file. It isn't on my machine so I create the below file in notepad and save it in my wordpress folder.

As soon as I do I get a 500 Internal Server Error which I believe is a permissions error. I check to make sure that my web.config file has the same permissions as other files such as wp-config.php. It does. Eliminate the web.config file and blog works but without the rewrite function.

If I modify the custom structure under permalink settings, I am told I should update my web.config file.

Any ideas as to why I would not have a web.config file to start with and why when I create one with the below text that I get a 500 error?

<!-- Set the default document -->
