Russian Programmers have recently delivered a Christmas Present to Microsoft. 

A full month prior to the public release of Microsoft Vista, the first security flaw has made its way public. The flaw was posted on a Russian site only weeks after the operating system was released to Microsoft’s large corporate users.

While there has been no known attacks using the flaw and researchers have shown the attackers must have access to the system to exploit the flaw, it does raise some eyebrows. Makes you wonder how long it will take for more significant exploits to rise.

Overall, security in Vista is a step in the right direction from past MS operating systems. This minimal exploit shouldn’t take away from the improvements, but it should serve as a reminder there is still progress to be made.

In the end, I think it will just keep early adaptors to the new OS from feeling left out. It’s just so exciting waiting for “Patch Tuesday” every month to see how many patches you get to download when that lovely yellow shield pops up on your task bar.

This way right out of the box, Vista Users can make good use of the Auto-Update feature Microsoft’s great programmers have worked so diligently on.
