Hi! My name is Kasia. I am the website manager for Train Signal Training – the free IT training and news blog brought to you by the best IT training on the planet! I’m new here at Train Signal (only been around for a few weeks) and I’m also fairly new to the IT training field. I have a B.A. in Psychology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and I’m currently working on my M.S. in Library and Information Science.
I’ve always had an interest in anything that is creative, artistic, inventive and innovative. That’s also why I love technology, computers, and above all, the internet. I’m pretty tech savvy (I think?), but I’ve never actually taken a computer class or had any instruction on how to use technology. I’ve heard of RAM, CPUs, and motherboards, but I don’t really know what these things are or what they do. What I know about computers is just from using them, which is probably the case for many people …
… but this is about to change! In the next several weeks (maybe longer) I will be studying for my first IT Certification: CompTIA A+! I thought this would be a good place to start, to get my feet wet and finally get a better understanding of computers and how they work. I like to learn at my own pace, so my training will come primarily from Train Signal’s CompTIA A+ training videos, the certification objectives provided by the CompTIA website, lots and lots of practice exams, and anything else I can get my hands on.
I will also be sharing my experiences (successes and failures!) with you, TST readers! So if you’ve been in my shoes and have advice for me, any good tips and tricks, or if you just want to share your certification experiences — feel free to contribute and leave me a comment or two!

I’ve Been a CompTia A+ Certified Technician for Several Years Now and I Would be the First to Say That This Certification Does Not Hold Any Weight in the Industry Like it Use to, Believe it or Not the A+ is a Good Starting Point Fundamentally Speaking, I personally Respect it, because I Have it, but in 2009-10, I Do Not Recommend Chasing This Cert to Break Into the Industry. Microsoft MCDST (XP) and MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician (Vista) is a Better Bet. Don’t Believe The CompTia Hype, Their Achilles Heel is the Fact That They are Vendor Neutral, Most Companies Won’t Know During the Interview Process How You and the A+ Fit in Without Any Additional IT Vendor Knowledge, i.e Microsoft, Linux, CCNA, VMware, etc. Good Luck.
